Let's Get Real

It's time for a little truth telling, long past time actually, so in no particular order, here goes:

The Democratic primary is, and has been over for a long time now. Somebody forgot to tell Hillary and Bill however, and apparently they don't know the difference between being a fighter who hangs on to the end, such as Rocky Balboa in the first movie, and just being a sore loser who refuses to exit stage left when the time has come.

Someone also forgot to tell Bubba to lay off the bottle, use some sunscreen, or perhaps both. Most presidents become more dignified once they leave office, think of Jimmy Carter, a mediocre president at best, but a heck of an ex-president. Clinton's legacy diminishes more by the day with each ridiculous comment that he makes.

By all rights, the general election shouldn't even be a contest. The Republicans had control of the executive branch for the last 7 plus years, control of both houses of Congress for 6, and the Supreme Court for much of the time as well, and this just in, they ain't doing so good. If a pro football coach had 7 straight 10 loss seasons it would be a no-brainer to replace him. Ditto for the Republicans.

John McCain is neither a maverick, nor an environmentalist, nor a military genius. So will the mainstream media please stop feeding us this line of crap, and will we please stop buying into it just because they are dishing it out?

The mainstream media is mostly full of that same crap, and doesn't favor liberals or conservatives so much as they protect the status quo, often by telling us bold faced lies or by failing to dig for the truth. There are a few noted exceptions, Tim Russert being one, but for the most part the media are simply the sounding board for those in power, not the fourth estate it was meant to be.

While we're on the subject of contests that aren't, the upcoming Lakers-Celtics series should be a Laker rout. Simply put, the Lakers are the much better team from the superior Western Conference, Kobe Bryant is the best player on the planet, every bit as good as Michael Jordan was, and the Celtics big three is overrated. They only managed 75 points in one of the Eastern Conference finals games against Detroit. Cmon already.

Steroids and doping in general have ruined cycling, track and field, and apparently horse racing, and they have put a serious damper on the Olympics and baseball, which don't have the same allure when most of us assume that everybody competing is a juiced up cheater. Speed records and home run numbers have become nearly meaningless in this era.

It is not a sin to be a Muslim, nor is it a sin to be homosexual, or to enter the country illegally in search of a better life. It is a sin to be an adulterer, a cheater, and a liar, so let's start calling out the right people if we are going to expose sinners.

If food prices were really increasing due to transportation costs, wouldn't food be cheaper the closer you lived to California, which is where much of the nation's food is produced? And wouldn't gas be cheaper the closer you lived to Mexico, where we get most of our oil from? Hmmm.

Most Islamic regimes in the Arab world are repressive, oppressive, tyrannical dictatorships and should be called as such by the West. It doesn't show prejudice against Muslims in general or Islam as a faith to do so.

Universal health care without regard to a person's physical condition and lifestyle habits is as ridiculous as offering universal auto insurance without regard to a person's driving habits.

A 44 year-old still smoking crack, or for that matter anyone over 30 who still habitually uses drugs needs to grow up already.

Everybody is charging us more and delivering less.

My mail-carrier is a jackass, who delivered my tax rebate check to the wrong address, got the house number right but missed out on the all important street name. I always figured the ability to read and pay attention were requirements to work for the U.S. Postal Service.

Dentists, realtors, and auto mechanics are a bunch of liars, beggars, and thieves.

A high school diploma and four dollars will get you a cup of hot chocolate at Starbucks, tip not included.

I could be wrong about all of this, but I doubt it.

So what's your take on the airlines charging us for our baggage and food? Rumor is they may be charging more if you prefer an aisle or window seat. What's with that? It was bad enough when they resorted to that lunch bag that you had to grab on the way to the airplane. Now it's like going to the movies or a ballgame. Five bucks for a candy bar or beer. When will it all end?!
